In 2015, I attended the RWA national conference in New York City. As I dragged my friends all around the area looking for Magnolia Bakery, we happened to see the @simonandschuster building. I took this picture after saying aloud, “One day this will be my publisher.” It took 10 years, but I can now say, “This is my publisher!”
When I first pitched this idea, I said it was paranormal fairy tale retellings featuring Latine folklore monsters and the paranormal investigators out to find them. For the most part it still is. However as I dug in, I realized it was so much more than that. I now think of it as, “What happens when a Suicide Squad of Latine folklore monsters find their fated mates—who happen to be the paranormal investigators hunting them—while battling a Colonizer League of Doom.”
Words cannot describe how excited I am to be working with @atriabooks and @primerosuenopress on this new series that has been in my heart for YEARS. I became a reader because of romantic Paranormal YA, but I always felt too insecure to actually write one. I’ve grown so much as a person and as an author over the last decade and I AM READY to unleash my ID on the world: folklore, monsters, history, social justice, paranormal investigation, and Latin Caribbean culture.

I had so much fun with @montsereports on @telemundowisconsin today. I love getting to talk about my books. But I have to work on my stage presence in Spanish. I swear I actually am funny sometimes! 😜One of these days I will sound as fluent as I truly am. 😂

Thank you @authorannette for inviting me to participate in your @therippedbodice Brooklyn event and for organizing a beautiful ofrenda plus snacks from @laflordeizucarcafe (including the best champurrado😍) Of course, I have to thank the sweetest person ever, @prisoliveras, for being the greatest hostess/tour guide ever!! It was so awesome to hug @alexisdaria, because I haven’t seen her in person since my last NYC visit in 2019! @ladriana_herrera always shows up for me and gives me the best advice (one of the many reasons I'll love her forever), so it was no surprise she hooked me up with a rec to @castillodejaguanyc where I had a mangú con tres golpes (fried egg, DR salami, and fried cheese) so delicious I was dancing in my chair.
I had so much fun with my author amigas taking our books all over the city (like The New York Public Library, The Rockefeller Center, and The Brooklyn Bridge) and eating some of the best treats!! (like adult hot chocolate at #bryantparkwintervillage, tahini chocolate chip cookies from @lappartement4f, and cream puffs from @bibbleandsip)
I’ll never forget signing my book at @booksaremagicbk, witnessing a Dia de los Muertos celebration in Times Square, dancing to salsa & bachata while overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge @timeoutmarketnewyork, and seeing Latine readers walk out of the Ripped Bodice with stacks of books by Latine authors!
This weekend just reaffirmed how damn great it is to be a member of the Latine community. Our people are just so fucking amazing! I love us with my whole heart.
I can’t wait to visit the city again…

Anyway! Meet (or re-meet) Leo and Sofi, two sort of friends with benefits, who’ve kept their on and off situationship a secret for over a decade! They fight and fuck, fuck and fight until Sofi can’t take it anymore and rollbounces over to Paris to live her best life…for a while.
Now she’s back in Humboldt Park and trying to mend fences with everyone except Leo. But Leo’s not having that and neither are his octogenarian co-conspirators. Together they plan to make Sofi see that her future has been right in her face all along. And since I wrote it, tomfoolery and shenanigans obviously ensue.
